Chapter 7

Drake

I wasn’t sure what to do at first. Gilbert just stood there with a look on his face as if he was seeing a ghost or one of the gods themselves. I glanced over at Blake, trying to see what our mate saw, but he just looked like a unicorn to me. But then again, I grew up seeing them, considering I was one. Maybe it was different when someone saw us for the first time?

Either way, or no matter the reason, I was just happy to see our mate smiling so widely.

“You’re both beautiful,” he whispered as he stepped closer. I let out a happy noise close to a neigh when he petted me.

“Only when we look like this?” Blake asked hesitantly through our bond. Gilbert gasped, his eyes going so wide I was afraid they might pop out of his poor head.

“I can hear you.”

“When we’re in this form only.” I answered the unasked question.

“Blake and I have always shared this bond since we’re twins, but when we claimed you, we brought you into the loop. Guess we forgot to tell you.”

“You think?” He giggled as he threw his arms around my neck before moving and doing the same to my twin. “I think you’re beautiful all the time, but it’s just different now. I’ve never seen anything so magical.”

“Honey, you’re a shifter. Magical should be your middle name.” I teased, not used to such praise from him.

“And how do I know which of you is which?” He looked confused, and I realized it wasn’t because he couldn’t tell us apart. He was confused because he could.

“The same way you can when we’re in human form,” Blake answered as he nuzzled our mate. “We’re identical twins but yet you never get us confused.”

“That’s true.”

“Thank you for showing me your second forms,” Grace said as she took a step back. “I know you guys have a lot to discuss and need to have some time together, so I’ll get out of your hair.” She held up a hand before Gilbert could protest. “I’ll be back. Maybe for dinner one night this week.”

Then she seemed to change her mind about something and stepped over to me since Gilbert was still by Blake.

“Take care of my boy. He’s lived a harder life than someone his age should ever have to. He doesn’t believe any of this is truly real or will last. Show him otherwise and he’ll let you in,” she whispered in my ear.

I gave her a nod that I understood and she kissed my nose before giving another wave and leaving. When she was gone, I noticed that Gilbert was shivering from the cold. I quickly shifted back and lifted him into my arms.

“See, still just as handsome,” he cooed as he snuggled up against me. “Thank you for letting me see that.”

“We’ll want to see you shift sometime, too,” I said quietly as Blake opened the back door, already having shifted as well.

“It’s nothing like looking at you guys,” he replied softly and somewhat nervously.
